Default Ritualist or Dervish?

Im making a new PvE character but I can't decide between Riualist or Dervish.

- But the reason im confused is I heard both of those Professions are getting skill nerfs.

It always comes down to preference.

They both got nerfed a little, recently, but, after some minor adjustments, they're still both effective.

They are both great professions, in PvP and PvE. They are so different to play, that they are hard to compare though.

Ritualists: summoning spirits, holding items, casting spells, destroying spirits...

Dervish: melee, enchant-heavy, aoe attacks...

I guess both have been "nerfed" in some ways, but there are also no guarantees for any profession in the future.

I enjoy them both, but I think I prefer the rit in regular play, the dervish for soloing.

Any nerfs or buffs for any profession won't be for a while, as they've just finished a big skills balance, so it shouldn't be a factor in deciding.

If you want to make money, make a warrior.

If you want to make more cash, go for a Ritualist. By the time you finish all the available quests on the first half of Shing Jea Island (before Seitung Harbor) you'll have 3-4 platinum in your coffers. And considering that's something that only takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, it's quite a haul for such a short and low level section of the game.

I made a dervish mainly because of the Avatars, they are good elites to bring along for their bonuses and their looks (though Melandru is a too risky for my taste, especially if I die). Later on, I found I liked the dervish as a secondary/primary tank in other missions for its ability to attack adjacent enemies.

I've never used the Ritualist as an offensive caster (outside of Shing Jea Island), but I know it is very useful as a healer/supporter in many parties. My rit is currently in training (probably somewhere between level 13 and 15) and is camped out in the area just after the consulate docks mission.

I suppose the real question is this:

Would you sooner start in Istan or Shing Jea Island?

Or perhaps:
Would you sooner play an Elonian or a Canthan?

Personally.... I'd go with Ritualist. I like weird and kewky things, and Ritualists are both of those. Not only that, but they make good subsidiary healers, aren't too bad on spell-attack either... AND I prefer Cantha to Elona...

But then again, if you can afford it, why not get an extra character slot and make both?

Ritualist gets my 1st vote just because there are so many different ways to play it. (Healer, Support, Channeler, and my favorite Barrager (I just love splinter weapon with barrage)

If you still can not decide and flip a coin

Good luck – there is no wrong answer

Ritualists have better armor.

Rts are better overall IMO.

personally, i love playing as a ritualist. i like to play as a caster, and a ritualist can be an effective healer while also being a pretty good damage dealer. factions' characters are really easy to level up when they first start out.

and it's true that rits have really unique and cute armor
